catalog ... the small images download faster and there is room to the right
for a description. Here the background is white, #FFFFFF.

Notice if you code everything correctly a portrait image is centered in the column width required by the landscape images.

Be sure to experiment with your pages. First try various window widths for the browser your are currently using. Then try the same thing using different browsers running at different screen resolutions.
A 240x320 image is probably a good comprimise for most catalogs. With high compression they download quickly, yet are big enough to be seen. Usually they are big enough not to require a "click for larger image" option (but you could always add that for products where it seems appropriate. Notice what happens when the desciption is very long as in this case. Here the image is "top allinged", but it could be centered. Item: ### $X.00 |
